“New York is Oakland, Oakland is New York”

October 26th 2011:
A surprise march in solidarity with Oakland and other occupy movements erupts Wednesday night chanting “New York is Oakland, Oakland is New York”. The protestors were urging the NYPD to put an end to police brutality and have better behavior towards nonviolent demonstrations. A few protestors at some points did yell at the cops, however many incidents seemed to have been instigated by police officers pushing and shoving into protestors asking them to get off the road and onto the sidewalk, resulting in angering protestors and creating clashes used as reasons for arrests. The march was inspired by the clashes that happened in Oakland where police used tear gas, flash grenades and projectiles against protesters in order to remove their occupation. Here are some images from last night.. more to come.
